Mechanism of action of the drug:
The drug is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid that binds to the androgen receptor (AR), the biological target of androgens such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It has moderate androgenic and anabolic properties, making it ideal for masculinization. The drug does not have estrogenic properties. The androgenic and anabolic potencies of mesterolone are relatively low due to its lack of potentiation by 5-reductase in "androgenic" tissues and its inactivation by 3-HSD in skeletal muscle. Compared to testosterone, however, it still exhibits a higher proportion of anabolic action relative to androgenic action.
Side effects:
Possible side effects include itching, fever, rash, weight gain, hives, abdominal pain, hot flashes, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting.
Dosage:
For adult men, a dosage of 25 to 50 mg three times a day is used in the initial stages, and a dosage of 25 mg two to three times a day for maintenance. This male hormone is not recommended for women.
