Pharmacological category:
Human growth hormone (Somatropin)
Mechanism of action of the drug:
Injectable somatropin is a synthetic form of human growth hormone, produced using recombinant DNA technology. This polypeptide is synthesized using a unique strain of E. coli bacteria, genetically modified to include the human growth hormone gene. The formulation includes phenol (3 mg/ml) as a preservative to protect the product from degradation and microbial contamination, and histidine as a buffering agent.
Side effects:
Possible side effects of HGH use include: nerve, muscle, or joint pain; swelling due to fluid buildup in body tissues (edema); carpal tunnel syndrome; numbness and tingling in the skin; elevated cholesterol levels.
Dosage:
Effective dose: 2-4 IU per day.
