Mechanism of action of the drug:
Nandrolone decanoate is an injectable anabolic androgenic steroid. It has been shown to increase hemoglobin levels and red blood cell mass, and is used in the treatment of anemia caused by renal failure. Nandrolone cannot be converted to dihydrotestosterone by the 5-alpha reductase enzyme, therefore it has no effect on the prostate. Nandrolone is metabolized to dihydronandrolone instead of dihydrotestosterone. Nandrolone binds to androgen receptors and also promotes muscle growth through non-receptor-mediated mechanisms.
Side effects:
Nandrolone inhibits endogenous testosterone production. It increases prolactin production and inhibits the secretion of gonadotropic hormones. The reduction in blood testosterone levels and the activation of progesterone receptors can cause a decrease in libido, which usually returns within a month after the end of the cycle. The use of a progestogenic antigen medication is necessary to neutralize the progestogenic effects of the steroid. Nandrolone does not convert to estrogens. Nandrolone is not toxic to the liver.
Dosage:
Nandrolone decanoate is administered by intramuscular injection. It should not be administered intravenously. Intramuscular injections should be given deep into the gluteal muscle.
